What's the difference between direct and regular mutual funds?

Direct plans are bought directly from the AMC without a distributor in between, so they have a lower expense ratio (typically 1-1.5% lower per year). Regular plans pay distributor commissions, which reduces your returns. Sapphire offers only direct plans - meaning higher returns over time.

Is there any minimum investment required?

Most mutual funds on Sapphire allow SIPs starting at just ₹500/month and lumpsum investments from ₹100. Some specific funds may have higher minimums set by the AMC.

Are mutual fund investments safe?

Mutual funds are regulated by SEBI and AMFI, and your money is held directly with the asset management company (AMC), not with Sapphire. Even if Sapphire ceased operations, your mutual fund holdings would remain safe with the AMC. Note that all mutual funds are subject to market risk.

Do I have to pay any charges to Sapphire for mutual fund investments?

No. Sapphire charges zero commission on direct mutual fund investments - no transaction fee, no advisory fee, no exit fee from our side. The only costs are the fund's own expense ratio (charged by the AMC) and any exit load defined by the fund itself.

How are mutual fund returns taxed?

Equity mutual funds: long-term capital gains (held 1+ year) above ₹1.25 lakh are taxed at 12.5%; short-term gains at 20%. Debt mutual funds: gains are taxed at your slab rate regardless of holding period (post-2023 changes). ELSS funds offer Section 80C deduction up to ₹1.5 lakh under the Old Tax Regime.

Can I stop or modify my SIP anytime?

Yes. SIPs can be paused, modified, or cancelled at any time without any penalty. Changes typically take effect from the next SIP date. There are no exit fees from Sapphire's side, though the underlying fund may have an exit load.
